The design of the MEPH was particularly challenging due to the nature of the building that, as a result of a number of various refurbishments within the space over the years, had a number of surprises as certain areas were exposed upon investigation.
All the works were undertaken in confined spaces, restricted access points, against a very challenging programme dictated by the client which included 48 hour working periods. One main challenge was the extent of client procured items, shipped over from China that required liaison, programming and site management to ensure they all were installed prior to PC. Given this was the client’s first project within the UK, there were a number of cultural expectations, concerns, misinterpretations of information, all of which needed to be discussed, reviewed and clarified in a collaborative and proactive manner to ensure programme momentum.
